Samantha S. Downey

Samantha is a fervent attorney targeting her practice at family law, civil litigation, and trial work. Her approach is to remain both client-centered and solution-focused. She prides herself on embodying one of her favorite quotes by Clara Barton: “You must never so much as think whether you like it or not, whether it is bearable or not; you must never think of anything except the need, and how to meet it.”

After graduating high school, Samantha left her hometown in northern California to join the Army as a 68W Combat Medic, serving from 2009 until 2016. During her time in the military, Samantha deployed to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Aviation Brigade, earned her Aircrew Badge as a UH-60 Blackhawk flight medic, and was the honor graduate for the 2011 Expert Field Medical Badge competition held near the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea.

Once Samantha completed her military career, she shifted her focus to becoming an attorney, earning her undergraduate degree in Democracy & Justice Studies from University of Wisconsin–Green Bay and her Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School. While at Notre Dame, Samantha served as the President of the Legal Voices for Children & Youth student organization and worked with clients as a student intern at the Special Education Law Clinic. She currently serves as the Municipal Prosecutor for Hobart-Lawrence and continues to be active in her community as a regular blood donor with the American Red Cross.
